The Cuban Missile Crisis (1962): a study of the Brazilian initiatives

The text explores the so called Cuban Missile Crisis, of October of 1962, generally considered as the most serious confrontation of the Cold War. The paper uses primary sources from the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Archives. Also literature published in Brazil and the exterior is used. The Brazilian initiatives at the time are very important in this paper, particularly the followings: (i) denuclearization of Latin American continent, (ii) the call for moderation to Cuban leadership, (iii) the permanent preoccupation with the crisis evolution, and (iv) the possibility of a neutralization of Cuban revolutionary process inside the borders of that island.
