Contribution of Urban Environmental Management to the Preservation of the Values of Built Heritage

Abstract

The environmental conception for the resources built of heritage value allowed adapting and integrating theories, models and systems universally used in environmental, urban and heritage management, in a conceptual model for urban environmental management of resources built of heritage value. Derived from this, a methodology was conceived and developed that incorporates the ecosystemic, strategic and participatory approaches, as well as describes a process that goes through three stages: assessment-planning, conservation-implementation and monitoring-control and a set of tools that helped to conserve them, and enrich this environment in a balanced, territorially feasible and equitable way for society. Its application in three Cuban towns, made possible to generate changes and favorable impacts in the local economic development and in the quality of its environment, favoring better living conditions; through offers of services, jobs, social spaces for collective use, among other components that have helped local development, respectively. That is why the objective of this article is to socialize the results of the contributions of the urban environmental management, from the treatment as an environmental resource to the values ​​of the built heritage, through a methodological process that helps its conservation and local development.
