Urban Planning in the context of Research and Extension: Reflections and Contributions of an Applied Research Center in the Southwest of Bahia's Semiarid Region

Abstract

Urban planning has been one of the biggest challenges of Brazilian urban policy, from its formulation to its execution, mainly due to the unilateral conduction in decision-making. A relevant mechanism to assist in the planning process is through democratic participation, especially with the support of Organized Civil Society (SCO) and its networks. In the context of SCOs, the relevant role played by research and extension institutions stands out, having as base apparatus, the technical-scientific results of conducted research, mainly applied. As a result, with this research, the objective was to analyze actions for Urban Planning, resulting from the research and extension processes of an institution in the interior of the semiarid region of Bahia, city of Guanambi/BA. As a methodological proposal, a case study was used, with an applied nature, using a qualitative approach. As main results, it was found that public policies in partnership with SCO entities are both possible and efficient to collaborate with Urban Planning, especially for enabling previous diagnoses that enable the discussion, monitoring and reassessment of Urban Planning.
