Use of new lexical anglicisms in the spanish through academic works and digital corpus

Abstract

Since the beginning of the 21st century, academic papers on Spanish linguistics have increasingly focused on collecting and classifying foreign words used in modern Spanish, reflecting their use in society, especially in contexts such as the media. Among these words there is a strong presence of Anglicisms, a fact reflected in the CREA and CORPES XXI digital corpora of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) and, consequently, in academic works. During the second decade of this century, these Anglicisms have gradually been adapted to the needs of the Spanish language. The present study focuses on this phenomenon, using the aforementioned corpora and the latest edition of the Diccionario de la lengua española (official Spanish dictionary of the RAE and the ASALE) to ascertain and elucidate the current situation of these Anglicisms in Spanish. In addition, it will be observed if these Anglicisms appear due to the factors of frequency and lexical need.
