User-centered information system design and the sense-making approach

This article discusses the information from the user's perspective. Dervin and others have provided some insights into the nature of information and information seeking that can serve as a conceptual base for understanding how our thinking has to change in order to develop user-centered information services. An overview of Sense-Making Approach is presented. Also a designing of the user interface strategies for effective human-computer interaction, derived from Schneiderman and Bastien & Scapin is presented. This study examined the site of pharmaceutical/cosmetic company from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The results show that the pages contents, visual communication and effective human-computer interaction are not attending all the criteria suggested by literature-focused.
