Marcos Cueto is a history and social sciences graduate and professor at the Department of Social Sciences and Health of the College of Public Health and Administration of Cayetano Heredia University, in Lima, Peru. Since 1991, he has been teaching and researching issues related to the history of public health, in addition to the relationship with international and global health. His concern with setting dialogue between social sciences and health has resulted in studies on the history of epidemics in Peru, the history of public health in Latin America, and, more recently, he has researched the history of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and of the World Health Organization (WHO). In 1998, he was granted with The Return of Epidemics: Health and Society in Perú during the Twentieth Century the Iberian-American award for the best book in social sciences and humanities about Latin America and published in Spanish. In this interview, granted to the Trabalho, Educação e Saúde journal in 2006, Cueto discusses his reflections on his latest research on international health, global health, and on the performance of international bodies such as the WHO and the PAHO.
