The Praxis Group - Research Nucleus about Work, Citizenship, Health Care, and Nursing - part of the Nursing Department and Graduate Program in Nursing at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, has been producing knowledge concerning health care and nursing work. The objective of this documental study was to analyze Master's Theses oriented by Praxis research produced from 1995 to 2006. Of the 56 Master's Theses involved in this study, the majority of these had a qualitative approach, investigated the work process in health care and nursing, and utilized two or more data collection techniques - predominantly content analysis. These studies concern themselves with explaining the organization of services and work relationships, with aspects referring to the subjectivity of the worker and to the work process and its constituent content elements. The fragility of investigations which go deeper into themes related to the product and assistance quality evaluation, the needs of the care subjects, the finality of work, and the praxis in the social-historical scenario were all made evident.
