Using art in popular health education, constructed in the daily nursing: an experience report

This article reports the experience of accomplishing the I Nursing Art Festival in Health Education for the School of Nursing and Pharmacy of the Federal University of Alagoas, Brazil. This event provided the opportunity to present artistic creations born from daily Nursing, as an instrument to develop health education processes and then take them to communities. The festival was carried out in three phases, the first being the Festival, where the artistic productions were presented to the public and judging commissions. The second showed the public the winning productions; and the third, a book publishing the productions presented. The event congregated 77 productions, awarding 15 studies produced by nurses, nurses’ assistants, and nursing students, placing the creativity of the nursing professionals in the difficult challenge of health education. The festival and its book showed how the authors developed pedagogical strategies that gave to the learning subjects their rightful active place. The experience was proved that when we act in innovative forms, the results tend to be surprising.
