Sexual diversity and education: challenges for teacher training

This article addresses sexual diversity in relation to education and its implications for teacher training in Brazil. The constitution of sexual diversity as an educational theme is linked to the struggle against homophobia, preceded by other foci of attention, such as masturbation, STDs, AIDS, and teenage pregnancy. The perception of them as social problems justified the mandate that schools participate in the administration of sexuality. Such relationships between sexuality, sexual diversity and educational practices demarcate boundaries and possibilities for professional training, a space in which these themes are inserted less frequently than in basic education.
