Sexual identity on a lesbian key. Conceptual and political tensions: from radical feminism to Judith Butler

This article discusses contributions on 'heterosexuality' by radical lesbian feminism and by Judith Butler’ philosophy. It describes the assumptions underlying the categories of 'body' and 'identity' involved in the debate on sexual identity. It highlights the emergence of the political dimension present in any discussion of sexuality to account for the disadvantages of tying to bodies essential features related to gender and sexuality. The article concludes with a suggestion to include subjective locations uncaptured in the restrictions of fixed and monolithic identities.
