Health Gym Program: adaptations in the centers during the COVID-19 pandemic

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic implied the reorganization of the services and work processes in the Unified Health System and raised limitations and challenges to Primary Health Care services. This study aims to present the adaptations in the offer of activities of the Health Gym Program from March/2020 to July/2021. A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out. Data were collected through an online questionnaire. A total of 1,373 operating poles were included in the analysis. The suspension of the actions offered in the Health Gym Program occurred in 70% of the poles. The states of Amazonas and Rio de Janeiro had the highest prevalence of poles in the suspension situation. Considering the 411 poles that maintained the activities, in 313 of them, there was the offer of remote actions, prevailing the availability of videos through instant messaging applications. In 41% of the poles, there was an offer of care to people with post-COVID-19 conditions, and body practices and physical activities were the main type of care. The results can support managers and health professionals in the implantation, implementation, and sustainability of the Health Gym Program in the territories.
