ELECTROMOBILITY AND POLITICAL RHETORIC: NATURAL RESOURCES, TECHNOLOGICAL NATIONALISM AND GREEN MORALITY IN BOLIVIA.

Abstract

Electromobility is taking shape in a market of great relevance on a global scale in which Bolivia plays an important role as it has one of the main reserves of lithium. Bearing both aspects in mind, the aim of this article is to find out how the electric car market is being shaped discursively in Bolivian territory. My hypothesis points to the existence of three narratives that could be synthesised as follows: in the recursive presence of an idea of a sui generis nature, in the emergence in the last lustrums of a technological nationalism, and in the strategic exhortation of a green morality as a political self-asscription. In terms of methodology, I carried out field work in Bolivia from January to March 2020, combining interviews, direct observation, and consultation of national newspapers.
