This article analyses the participation of Brazilians in Spanish Civil War, most of whom belonged to the Communist Party. The article also analyses the political and diplomatic context of the Spanish conflict. It is based in an original research on primary sources, specially questionnaires and interviews with ex-combatants and their relatives as well as on available secondary sources. This research constitutes one of the first surveys of voluntary involvement of Brazilian combatants in the military episodes of the Spanish Civil War, with emphasis given to their participation in the International Brigades.
