Institutions in different parts of Brazil refuse to employ individuais with schistosomiasis, not taking into consideration the evolutional stages of the said verminosis. The authors, worried by such a problem and wishing to collect information and view the matter from a pratical and objetive side, undertook an investigation amongst 601 candidates for military regular services in the city of S. Paulo, using intradermic tests for the helminthic detection. A 13,3% rate of positive results thus obtained was held as quite an expressive refletion of the real situation, commanding attention because of its social, economic and medical implications.
