Experiência com diazepam isolado e associado à mefenesina na terapêutica do tétano

The authors present their experiences with Diazepan, alone and associated with Mephenesin, as a sedative and muscle relaxant in 21 cases of generalized tetanus. During this trial, an important sedative eflect was found when Diazepan was given directly but this effect was mild when this drug was gwen in a continuous intravenous drip in glucose solution. When Diazepan was given directly, intravenously it had a rapid muscle relaxing and sedative effect which lasted from 30 minutes to two hours. The association of Diazepan in fractional doses with Mephenesin in continued drip showed a good and constant muscle relaxing and sedative effect, and made possible a reduction of the usual Mephenesin doses. Some side effects such as tremor, change in behavior and hallucinations were observed as wel as two cases of medicamentous coma and were attributed to Diazepan. All these side effects disappeared with the reduction of the doses
