Mother’s perception about oral health care accomplished in residence in neonatology

Abstract

Introduction

The maternal evaluation about the provision of health services for neonatal health care stands out as an important quality reference in the hospital setting.

Objetive

to analyze the perception of mothers on oral health care brought by dental professionals residing in Neonatology.

Materials and method

This is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach to the mothers of neonates who were hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit of the Regional University Hospital of Campos Gerais.

Result

Initially the information on the presence of the dental surgeon in the neonatal health care team was viewed with surprise by the participants, but only until the actions were highlighted. After clarification, most interviewees expressed satisfaction, motivation and safety regarding dental care and admiration for the offer of this health service in a public hospital.

Conclusion

The perception of the participation of the dental surgeon in the health team was evaluated in a positive way by the participating mothers, when it was evidenced the performance of this in the hospital scope. The survey strengthens the need for continuity and expansion of health promotion and prevention actions, promoting in this way the early encouragement and empowerment of mothers and their families.
