Colecções botânicas do Brasil em espaços verdes notáveis de Lisboa

ABSTRACT

The Portuguese Enlightenment happened in the middle of XVIIIth Century. So was perceived the importance of the knowledge of the existing natural resources of the country. Only by the middle of XIXth Century attention was given again to the botanic studies. New green areas were founded and developed the existing ones, where collections of plants became to be organized for scientific and didactic purposes. The Jardim Botânico de Lisboa was founded in 1873, being enriched with species of taxonomic importance. The Jardim-Museu Agrícola Tropical, founded in 1906, was instaled in 1914 in the place where it still exists, being promoted the introduction of economic and exotic plants. The Estufa Fria de Lisboa had its begining in 1912, comprising a large number of species of various parts of the world. After several taxonomic studies made by the authors, in the mentioned sites, the Brazilian species were selected, showing their uses by man and distribution on the green spaces studied, which have Brazilian collections of vegetal species of great value. These places play an important role to the botanic research, as well as to didactic, educational and environemental promotion.
