The purpose of this article is to present some relevant aspects about the relationship between art and Social Work. Based on theoretical contributions using an interdisciplinary perspective, exploratory qualitative research, and artistic delimitation, rap music was analyzed through two songs: Periferia é o Alvo, by the group Visão de Rua – Dina Di (1976-2010), Tum and DJ O.G – and Rap é compromisso, by Sabotage (1973-2003). Initially, presents the introduction; methodological procedures; a brief theoretical discussion about the history of art is presented. Then, an interdisciplinary dialogue about art; and the trajectory and contributions of Dina Di and Sabotage are presented. Finally, the formation, condition, and expression of being artistic is discussed. It was evident that art, in this case the peripheral art of rap, is one of the artistic modes that contributes most to the profession, by presenting a reevaluation of everyday life, from a critical perspective. This art also includes subjectivities, peculiarities, and collectivities of ways of life, as well as political-affective elements based on socio-territorial experiences.
