Abstract
This article debates current theoretical-methodological trends found in Brazilian social service. It analyzes the tense, contradictory and necessary relationship between Brazilian social service, Marxist social theory and the Marxist tradition, highlighting two important Gramscian categories: intellectuals and cultural-direction.
