The incidence of the Covid-19 pandemic on the Contentious Administrative Courts in Spain

Abstract

The crisis caused by Covid-19 has had clear repercussions on the Administration of Justice in Spain and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. The present study examines how the measures to combat the pandemic have affected judicial activity, with particular reference to the Contentious Administrative Courts. To this end, on one hand it critically analyses the impact of the measured adopted by the authorities to reduce the effect of the pandemic on the functioning of the Contentious Administrative Courts, and on the other, de lege ferenda, it makes proposals to improve the current regulatory framework governing the Contentious Administrative Courts and it evaluates the proposals put forward by the General Council of Judicial Power to reactivate legal activity in this ambit and the measures already adopted or planned by the Government to facilitate legal activity in this area.
