From eventful crowds to post-eventful politics

ABSTRACT

This essay focuses on thinking about an eventful crowd that faces the emergence of bolsonarism from a resumption of crowd theories developed during the 20th century. Event is thought here based on Badiou’s philosophy; we will go through the psychology of crowds, Freud’s emphasis on social logics based on the libidinal bond, Laclau’s Freudian resumption thinking about a continuum of social logics of multitudinal organization, Jodi Dean’s focus on the relationship between the eventful crowd and the party form and, finally, the dialectic of emergence in Safatle from the work of the negative.
