Types of regional knowledge protected by institutions under the Canastra designation of origin (MG)

Abstract:

This work aims to discuss the types of knowledge in the region under the Canastra designation of origin (DO) after the insertion of knowledge of health legislation and of geographical indication (GI). As a specific objective, it seeks to understand how the relations of trust among institutions in the region have been affected by GI. The qualitative research method of this work involved content analysis of documents and interviews with the help of the software Atlas.Ti. The main results are: parts of the knowledge of the legislation were incorporated into the production process of the Artisanal Cheese Minas Artisanal through the Interpretative Dossier of the Brazilian National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute and the Regulation of Use of IO. This knowledge has been widely disseminated by the Minas Gerais Institute of Agriculture and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply . The knowledge of GI has been disseminated mainly among the producers by the Canastra Cheese Producers Association. It is possible to conclude that the three types of knowledge found; protected, exogenous and tacit, have been strongly influenced by the insertion of the legislation and weakly influenced by knowledge of the GI. Knowledge of legislation has altered the relationship of trust between endogenous and exogenous institutions.
