Is school for everyone? Contradictions around the presence of immigrant students in Italian schools

Abstract:

The article reflects on some contradictions related to the presence of immigrant students in schools and their formative trajectory, among them, the situation of unaccompanied foreign minors, school dropout and school discrepancy and the challenges related to the vaunted integration. We address particularly the Italian situation, which in the last 50 years has become a country of immigration with the presence of 198 nationalities from Europe (inside and outside the European Community), Asia, Africa and America. So many nationalities, ethnicities, languages, cultures pose major challenges for schools, which have 10% of immigrants among their students. For the analysis, we used as reference, research, documents and data on immigrant students in Italian schools.
