The meeting of two passions: soccer in Irmãos Coragem (Janete Clair, 1970/1971)

Considering that the Brazilian soap operas build narratives about the nation and incorporate social issues, this study aimed to discuss the representation of soccer in Irmãos Coragem, written by Janet Clair, directed by Daniel Filho and Milton Gonçalves, broadcasted by Globo in 1970 and 1971, the first time in Brazil that the sport took up considerable space in television fiction. To reach the objective, we worked with the compact version of the soap opera. It was expected to take a look at the presence of soccer in a key moment of the country's recent history: in one of the tensest periods of the regime that had begun in 1964, the Brazilian national team has won the Mexico World Cup, becoming the holder of the Jules Rimet Trophy.
