The 15th year of the Maria da Penha Law

Abstract:

This essay reports the trajectory of the Maria da Penha Law (LMP), its achievements and challenges, which mark the 15 years of its validity. The LMP institutes a new paradigm for designing, managing and evaluating public social policies aimed at preventing, protecting, assisting and confronting gender-based violence against women. Its achievements predict a new cultural and political sociability, intersectoral policies and interdisciplinary actions, from an intersectional approach. However, the challenges are historical, conjunctural, regional, cultural and economic, reaffirming the complexity of the phenomenon of violence against women and the need to project them as an agenda for discussion in different spaces of society.
