Bibliometric study of theses and dissertations in theadministration of environmental sustainability

The objective of this study was to determine the characteristics of scientific production of theses and dissertations that treat the theme of environmental sustainability management graduate studies program in Brazil, from 1998 to 2009. The exploratory / descriptive was conducted through document analysis and content, with qualitative and quantitative approach. Data were collected in the database of CAPES, which were selected strictly only courses in Business Administration. The database of CAPES was chosen after exploratory research work, being the base with greater availability of data in the largest amount of time. This was a longitudinal study with data from a period of 12 years. Were read and categorized the titles of 13,656 theses and dissertations, of which 529 were found related to the environment, classified in 26 categories. The survey results show that there was growth of the total volume of theses and dissertations in Brazil, which was accompanied by the total work, defended the environmental dimension, particularly in the last five years of analysis. The data show a predominance of theses and dissertations focused on the topics: environmental management, sustainable development, corporate sustainability, waste management, green marketing, sustainable tourism, environmental management system, clean development mechanism, alternative energy and water resources that correspond 76.4% of the work. There is greater participation in percentage terms and absolute master of dissertations from in relation to the master's professional dissertations and doctoral degrees. The southeastern region with the largest number of theses and dissertations on the environmental dimension, but the North has the highest proportional contribution of work in this area. Of a total of 55 Higher Education Institutions, ten account for 52.4% of theses and dissertations in the period, mostly in south and southeast. There is a concentration of studies of the environmental dimension in one or two teachers of the programs studied.
