Inclusion of newcomers researchers in the field of strategy: analysis of the relationships of authorship and studied issues in the period 1997-2010

This article has sought to verify the role played by the new authors in the development of Brazilian scientific production in the area of strategy. A sociometric and bibliometric study of published studies was conducted in the period of 1997-2010, which allows checking the structure of cooperation among authors and institutions as well as the authors classified in accordance with the regularity and distribution of their publications over time. The sample comprised 1459 articles, 1002 of the EnANPAD's strategy area and 457 of the 3Es. The authors were classified in continuants, transients, newcomers, one-timers and terminators. The social network analysis was performed related to co-author. Thematic content analysis of studies was also used involving the themes of newcomers. It was observed that the category of newcomers has the second lowest number of authors and which has the lowest number of published articles. There are also authors with 6 and 7 published articles in three years, which represents a high productivity index taking into account the period. More worrying is the fact that the number of newcomers is fewer than terminators, which indicates that the area is decreasing in number of researchers. However, the observation that the newcomers are more concerned with one-timers may indicate that some of them may also be considered as newcomers in the coming years. Some newcomers presented centrality in their networks, by providing a bridge among authors of other categories. This demonstrates that these authors can gain competitive advantage in their networks for the access to information and negotiation of contact among different groups (BURT, 1992), as well as it supports the highest level of innovation that can exist in these networks (GRANOVETTER, 1973). The study observed a high degree of centrality, a higher index of homogeneity than heterogeneity and the existence of cohesive groups in cooperation networks involving newcomers, though small and characteristic of small world networks. The most studied themes by the newcomers are internationalization and organizational performance. This study may contribute to the development of the area of scientific production in Brazil's strategy to measure important aspects of its configuration, such as making associations among researchers of different categories of production and continuity, especially regarding the inclusion of new investigators.
