A FAMILY HARD WORKER: CONCURSEIRA’S IDENTITY ON PRESENTATIONS FROM INSTAGRAM

Abstract

This is a study on the sociology of juridical professions developed with the aim to identify the construction of an “concurseira’s” identity (the identity of a public servant “wannabe” in Brazil) from the analysis of the presentation of the self in the virtual social space of Instagram. We carried on a dramaturgical analysis, inspired by Ervin Goffman, of the interactions occurred during the month of June in 2022 in 44 Instagram’s profile. The interpretative work consisted in the search for values shared by members of the group. We came to identify a constant group’s disposition for the presentation of a role of a worker and orderly person that avoid the conflict and that materialize “family values”. We labeled those traces of personality as “worker” and “family”. We concluded that there are significant differences between “professional” values and “concurseiro’s” values in the field. We understood that (1) there is a significant difference between the concurseiro’s values and the “professional” values in the juridical field, and (2) this leads to a great chance of seeing concrete problems in the institutional systems of juridical education and ethics’ control.
