BACKGROUND: knowledgement of the orthografhic mistakes in case of cerebral palsy. PROCEDURE: to study a case of a patient with diplegia, spastic component in inferior members, hypotony of base in trunk and face; as it possible has vestibular and cerebellum base injury, the problem is bigger in the inferior members, being still observed deficit of balance and attention. The tests of Zorzi (1998) had been applied and had also been compared with the Bacha & Maia (2001) ones, whose data were directed to students without cerebral palsy. RESULTS: in the five tests, 126 orthographic mistakes had been analyzed: the majority, 52.4%, in the multiple representations category, matching the cases without PC; followed by omissions (12.7%), generalization (11.1%), similar letters (6.3%), support in orality, junction-separation and am x ão confusion with 3.2%, addition of letters (1.6%), de-voicing-voicing (0.8%), with no inversion mistake and 5.5% classified as "others". The application of the discriminant function allowed to reclassify the case in the e,emtary education (2nd year). CONCLUSION: different classification of the orthographic mistakes was found when compared with the cases without cerebral palsy, a high amount for the school year and more studies are being considered necessary in similar population.
