Morphometrics of Papilioninae (Lepidoptera, Papilionidae) occurring in four communities from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. III. Shape wing analysis by landmarks

This study investigated variation in the forewing morphology of 11 butterfly species (Papilioninae), sampled in four communities of the Rio Grande do Sul State. The analyses were performed using descriptors of shape derived from anatomical landmarks, wing areas, and area, length and width of the discal cell. Differences in the consensus configuration for wing shape between male and female wings were not significant, showing a high correlation degree. The wing shape did not differ among the four communities investigated. The observed differences in wing shape of the species studied here should be better explained by independent changes associated with different areas of the wing, mainly with the discal cell.
