The bulk conductivity test as an indicator of bell pepper seed quality

The objective of this study was to establish methodology to conduct the electrical conductivity test in pepper seed, ennehiny differente imbibing periods and temperatures. Using five seed lots, of the Magali R cultivar, the conductivity test was performed with 25 seeds immersed in 25ml distilled water for 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 24 hours of soaking at 25°C and 30°C. The following additional tests were performed: water content, germination, seedling emergence, first count and controlled deterioration. The results confirmed the efficiency of the electrical conductivity test to evaluate the bell pepper seed vigor. The best combinations were 25 seeds immersed in 25ml water at 30°C, for 2, 3, 5 or 6 hours.
