O mar territorial brasileiro de 200 milhas: estratégia e soberania, 1970-1982

The main purpose of this article is to analyse and identify the forces that contributed decisively to the expansion of the Brazilian territorial sea to 200 miles, in March 1970. Another purpose is to demonstrate the strategy undertaken by Brazilian Foreign Policy in defence of the 200 mile territorial sea, during the period that goes from the maritime expansion, in 1970, until the conclusion of the works of the III United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, in 1982, evaluating the Convention and its main results in the area of Brazilian interests.
