PURPOSE: To evaluate the contact lenses fitting with respect to visual improvement in patients with keratoconus. METHODS: We conducted a prospective study of 54 patients (99 eyes) attending the Contact Lens Clinic of Faculdade de Medicina do ABC (FMABC) from january 2010 to november 2010. Data were collected on gender, age, treated eyes, degree of keratoconus, initial visual acuity (VA) and final VA after fitting. RESULTS: Of the patients, 44% were women and 56% men. Forty-six point forty-seven percent of keratoconus were classified as moderate (45 to 52 D) .The most affected age group was found between 11 and 30 years (74%). The success rate after treatment was 93% (final VA of 0.3 or above 20/70). CONCLUSION: The use of contact lenses provided significant visual improvement in most patients, especially in keratoconus graduate advanced and severe.
