Comparing efficacy of fundus photography and fluorescein angiography in the diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy

ABSTRACT

Objective:

To assess effectiveness of fundus photography and fluorescein angiography in diagnosis and screening of diabetic retinopathy.

Methods:

A retrospective study of 398 diabetic patients, based on analysis of results of both tests.

Results:

Results of fluorescein angiography and fundus photography coincided in 77.4% of cases, and there was no significant difference in staging and identification of retinopathy by both methods.

Conclusion:

There was no significant difference between both methods regarding the capacity to diagnose the disease, showing no benefit in indicating fluorescein angiography as initial assessment of diabetic patients.
