Applied linguistics and Brazilian studies: theoretical-methodological (inter-)relations

Abstract:

Several fields of study - and their research agendas - are trying to (re-)invent themselves due to new discourses that are emerging in contemporary times. Among these fields, applied linguistics and brazilian studies are areas that have recently experienced (re-)descriptions, in a movement of continuously readjusting themselves to a responsive and responsible way of knowledge construction. In this movement of (re-)description, both areas are experimenting new epistemologies, i.e., new lenses. Besides being more appropriate to the present moment, these new lenses can affect one another by contributing to the construction of a scientific research on language education that takes into consideration the social, economical, political and wider cultural contexts in which people live their lives. Thus, this paper aims at analyzing possible theoretical-methodological (inter-)relations between the aforementioned research areas: applied linguistics and brazilian studies. It is my intention to point out to the possibility of an effective dialogue between them: a movement of cross-fertilization, that is, of mutual benefit for the two highlighted areas. This way, I believe that I could contribute to a (re-)description of the research in the field of language teaching and learning in Brazil.
