Okay so what do you think? How do you feel about this?
|
182-S7: |
Hmn. Well, he doesn’t look so bad since it was more of a mercy killing than a kill for a kill. |
183-T: |
Hmn |
184-S7: |
And I see now how “it” used to be his friend and he cannot… |
185-S10: |
“it” |
186-S7: |
Well, that is how he´s called. |
187-S3: |
Yes, it is |
188-S7: |
But he doesn’t want to see him be an “it” so he mercifully killed him. And he mentioned that if he [Annandale] was going to die, he was going to suffer a lot. And when you bleed out you usually fade away.

189-T: |
Comments?
|
190-S10: |
I sort of think the same way as S7 because, I mean, he did kill him, but he got him off from all the suffering, so it’s sort of a good action. In some way. |
191-T: |
Hmn. Any other comments?
|
192-S4: |
Um, well, it sounded well, uh…like what one would choose to do, if one were in that position |

194-S4: |
In that situation. If you think about how, for example, your best friend or somebody that you love, really love, when you see that they are good, you don’t see him or her like they were in their bedtime you wouldn’t think of killing them, is the best, so. |
195-T: |
So, everybody seems to be defending the doctor. Does anybody disagree?
|
196-S1 |
I disagree. I mean it doesn’t matter how the person is and how bad he’s going through. In the end you don’t have the right to take his life away. Just because you don’t want to see him suffering. |
197-T: |
Hmn. |
198-S1: |
I mean it’s not his right. |
199-S3 |
It´s still murder. |

201-S2: |
In that aspect, it’s like the doctor was saying that he is God so he decided whether he stopped living or [I] so... It’s like S1 says that the doctor’s purpose is to save lives. Not say like, “Eh he’s really messed up so I’m going to, uh, take away his suffering.” So, no, because he didn’t even ask him if he wanted to die. He just said, “Eh you´re going to die eventually so I’m going to do it now for you, so that you stop suffering.” |
202-T: |
What if he [Annandale]wasn’t conscious? How could he ask that?
|
203-S9: |
Usually, the family is the one who decides those things. Not the doctor. |
204-S4: |
Also, I don’t think the he, um, um like well I think that the, the, the effect that made him do that… is that he was his friend and it was something, someone near to him, maybe if he was another person maybe he would try to save his life because that’s his job. But it was a person that he knew, so that affects a lot on the person. And also, I think that because…when you are preparing to be a doctor you see a lot of things, so you, you if you´re going to be a doctor you need to be a person with a really, um, strong emotions because no, not any kind of person that is really emotional can be a doctor. |
