Occular complications in sickle cell disease

Occular complications of sickle cell disease are multiple and require continuing assessment to detect lesions early enough for effective prophylactive therapy. The risk of retinopathy requires evaluation by ophthalmologists of all patients aiming at monitoring the progression or regression of lesions and consequently, the best choice of the available therapeutic options.
