The production and circulation of mathematical knowledge in the area of Geometry in the Jesuit schools of the Southern Brazilian Province of the Society of Jesus (1845-1939)

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the pedagogical productions, in printed and handwritten form, produced by teacher Godofredo Schrader, S. J., who worked at the South-Brazilian Province, from the Society of Jesus, between the years of 1905 and 1945. In this regard, we observe some aspects concerning the educational background and practice of teacher Godofredo Schrader, S. J., by means of his publications in the area of Geometry. Concerning methodological procedures, this work uses the Historical Documentary Analysis, analyzing sources located in three collections of Jesuit Institutions. The research indicates that the productions of Schrader fitted the Francisco Campos reform and to the curriculum of the Pedro II School, Rio de Janeiro, which circulated and were used by teachers of certain schools of the Order.
