Abstract:
Issues related to challenges, tensions, achievements and important debates in the History of Education in Brazil and Portugal are discussed, especially since the second half of the 20th century. Some discussions are retrieved, related to forms of historical-educational production, investigative gaps, individual or shared production, disputes over funding, etc. As proposition, three dimensions are considered: immediate challenges related to the continuity of the knowledge area; intermediate challenges, focused on internationalization and the dissemination of research results; and theoretical-methodological challenge, which must be recurrently placed by the field. It ends by drawing attention to another dimension that cannot be neglected by the researcher: the ethical challenge.
