The National Council of Education: 1931 to 1936

Abstract: This article is a product of the postdoctoral research stage that located and cataloged 297 minutes of the National Education Council (CNE) at its first phase of action, between 1931 and 1936. Although known mainly through legislation, the CNE had not yet been studied from the inside, that is, its functioning and its peculiarities were hitherto unknown. The purpose of this article is, therefore, to present the operation of the CNE - also known as the Court of Education - how it was governed and the importance of its meetings recorded in its minutes for the history of Brazilian education. The proposal is to be a reference to understand the CNE. For this article, federal legislation was used, the CNE minutes and a Doctoral Thesis that is the first research based exclusively on this documentary collection, bringing a proposal also of theoretical emancipation from the traditional citation.
