This article aims at examining the diffusion of scientism theories in the gaúcho working movement in the 1st Republic, such as darwinism, criminal anthropology, the kardecist spiritism etc.; as well as the channels of diffusion of such ideas and its political repercution, above all else the conformation of an "authoritarian style" in the conduction of the working struggle.
