Abnormality and Psychiatric Culture: an Inquiry from the Revista de Psiquiatría y Disciplinas Conexas, Chile, 1935-1957

ABSTRACT

This paper examines the relationship between the category of abnormality and how it was assumed and represented in the pages of the Revista de Psiquiatria y Disciplinas Conexas, a specialized Chilean publication with over twenty years of continuity (1935-1957). From the perspective of constructionism and content analysis, we review its editorial profile, its link with the context of the time, the role assigned to psychiatrists and the way in which the journal reproduced and transmitted stereotyped identities.
