Based on an empiric research about the 1887 "paulista" separatism, this article intends to discuss the characteristics that were assigned to the movement: its strict relation with the republicanism and its proslavery character. The text also composes some remarks about the chronological limits of the "paulista" separatism at the end of the 19th century.
