EFFECTS OF BAP AND TDZ ON THE BANANA PLANTLETS CV. MAÇÃ THROUGH RAPID PROPAGATION METHOD "IN VIVO"

The benzylaminopurine (BAP) with 0.0 and 10.0 mg/L and thidiazuron (TDZ) with 0.0; 10.0 and 20.0 mg/L were tested to induce shoot and production of plantlets of banana plant 'Maçã' through the new methods of propagation in vivo. The work was carried out in the farm of EPAMIG, at Lavras -- MG, in the period of april to november of 1995. The rhizome with 16.0 to 20.0 cm of diameter were planted in the substrate containing sand and rice peel (1:1) and covered with transparent plastic in a small greenhouse about 1.3 m of height. The results showed that growth regulator did not influence the number of plantlets. The highest number of plantlets obtained was 2.99 with 10.0 mg/L BAP supplemented with 20.0 mg/L TDZ. However, a significative reduction on the bud flush period from 32,0 to 24,2 days (24,4%) was obtained in relation to the control and from 30,6 to 24,2 days (17,6%) to the treatments containing only TDZ. On the other hand, the total period of the plantlet cycle production was reduced from 200,0 to 188,1 days (6,95%) and from 198,4 to 188,1 days (5,2%) in relation to the control and treatments containing only TDZ, respectively.
