Shoots induction in apical and axillary buds of the apple rootstack 'EM-9' cultivated in vitro

The aim of this study was to compare two explants types (apical and axillary buds) of apple rootstock 'EM-9' and, their incubation period on induction medium (20, 30 and 40 days), in the capacity of in vitro regeneration of shoots. The induction medium was MS, suplemented with myo-inositol (100 mg.L-1), sucrose (30 g.L-1), agar (6.0 g.L-1), BAP (4.44 mM) and NAA (0.54 mM). Elapsed the time of permanence in the induction medium, the explants were transferred to multiplication medium without auxin. It was concluded that apical and axillary buds of the rootstock 'EM-9', did not differ in in vitro regeneration of shoots and, the incubation period of buds on regeneration induction medium, only shown differences for the average length of shoots, the highest value was obtained in 30 days.
