GERMINATION AND GROWTH OF Eugenia uniflora L. SEEDLINGS UNDER SHADE CONDITIONS

The objectives of this work were to evaluate germination capacity of Eugenia uniflora L. seeds and the growth of seedlings under shade conditions. The experiment was carried out at Experimental Research Area of the UNIGRAN -- Dourados, MS. Germination test was done with 300 seeds and germination percentage and emergence speed index were evaluated. At the third month after emergence, the seedling growth experiment was carried out in a randomized block design with three treatment (50% and 70% of sunlight and at full sunlight) with four replications of 15 seedlings each treatment. When seedlings presented 4, 5, 6 and 7 months of age, height and stem diameter were evaluated and at the final of the experiment, total dried weight of seedlings (g), leaf area (dm²), leaf weight rate - RPF (g/g) and leaf specific weight - PEF (g/dm²). Eugenia uniflora L. is specie of easy propagation by seeds presenting 65,7% of germination and emergence speed index of 3.34, and seeds began their germination process 23 days after sowing. Seedlings growth better under full sunlight conditions, where they showed biggest height, stem diameter, dried weight and leaf area.
