Education, communication and imagination in John Dewey: theoretical and practical contributions

Abstract:

This article aims to present theoretical and practical contributions to education, considering the teaching of school subjects as a difficulty concerning communication. For this, two operations are carried out: the theoretical analysis of John Dewey’s ideas about the educational meaning of communication and imagination, and the presentation of a thought experiment that dramatically simulates a practical situation - a teacher training course whose objective is to teach such Deweyan ideas using the notions of drama and thought experiment. The conclusions of the article discuss the contribution of the thought experiment to establish fundamental values of teaching practice.
