A Profile of Alumni/ae from the São José do Rio Preto School of Medicine

Abstract:

This study focused on the profile of gradutes from the São José do Rio Preto School of Medicine (Famerp), São Paulo State, from 1973 to 1998 in relation to sociodemographic data, graduate studies, choice of career specialty, participation in the labor market, level of professional satisfaction, financial return, access to technical and scientific information, and current perception of undergraduate training. A self-answered questionnaire was used, sent by mail to a random sample of 1.200 alumni/ae, with 302 responses. The data indicate young graduates, an increase in the female contingent in recent decades, a trend towards an increased work load, various forms of professional activity, and that most graduates had remained in the interior of the State of São Paulo. The majority were also satisfied with their field of specialty, with a low attrition rate and a search for continuing education, which corroborates data from the literature.
