Infrared spectroscopy: a presentation for high school students

The theory of significant learning aims, in its essence, the construction of concise and coherent significance in each personal structure of knowledge. Therefore, this text was written with the purpose of diffusing, to high school students and teachers, an actual subject usually not mentioned in physics and chemistry classes, as well as the linking of this subject to examples and concepts possible to be developed in the classroom. Specifically, this text proposes the organization, presentation and discussion of the identification and characterization of materials through infrared spectroscopy, a modern and precise characterization technique, largely used in a great variety of applications in physical, chemical, medical, biological, materials and forensic sciences, technology and engineering. This paper also develops actual and important concepts and definitions, as spectra and spectroscopy, in a general way.

spectroscopy; infrared spectroscopy; characterization of materials
