Municipal schools of Campinas and sociodemographic vulnerability: first approximations

This paper discusses the distribution of public schools in Campinas, São Paulo - Brazil, according to their spatial location and school performance, as source of polling data: GERES 2005 - LOED / FE / UNICAMP <http://www.geres.ufmg.br/> and Vulnerability - NEPO / UNICAMP <http://www.nepo.unicamp.br/vulnerabilidade/>. Using theoretical references that support the concepts of Social Vulnerability, Spatial Segregation, Neighborhood Effects and School Quality, analyzed the distribution of schools within different areas of vulnerability, relating this distribution to the results of their performance measured by "aggregate value". The methodology used was with 1) a description of the variables related to characteristics around the schools, 2) the intersection of performance and features found in these schools. The results revealed that there not is a regular evidence relation between the spatial layout of the schools and their performance.
